Encaustics are a very old technique. Evidence of them has been found in Egyptians tombs. They enjoyed a renaissance in the 1950's and are much used today. I use high quality bees wax, mixed with damar varnish and oil paint for the color. Each layer is fused to each other by reheating. When cooled this creates a very durable surface. I use many layers which produces a textural and colourful surface.
